About Us
A woman of uncommon drive and business savvy, Michelle Massman
functions as a key component in a dizzying array of
entrepreneurial ventures. For over twenty years, Massman &
Associates has guided, launched, directed and overhauled
everything from small start up ventures to multi-million dollar
private companies with little fanfare.
As with any success story, achievement did not come simply. In
1993 Michelle recognized a community-wide need for an event that
would educate, empower, and entertain women in the Central
Minnesota region. She began what became a tradition of
excellence, instituting the area’s first Women’s Showcase
(www.womensshowcase.com). Though the inaugural year brought a
disappointing loss of $10,000, Massman & Associates regrouped to
develop an oft-copied platform for women now in its seventeenth
year. The showcase flourished with a business mandate of service
to the community and became the largest single-day event in
Central Minnesota. This working model of service typified
Massman & Associates and their company’s involvement in future
projects.
In 1995 Michelle launched Works in Progress
(www.worksinprogress.com) after connecting with Tracy Gary and
Joline Godfrey, two internationally known speakers, during the
first National Women’s Business Summit. At that time, Michelle
decided to dedicate her resources and talent to building
additional entrepreneurial programs for women in the Midwest.
Past and present Works In Progress programs have included:
* Time Well Spent! Women and Business Conference – an annual
conference providing regional and national speakers and training
that assist individuals in areas of leadership, finance,
communication, and life balance;
* Girl Biz’; – an entrepreneurial training program focusing on
teaching girls age nine to eighteen economic independence
skills;
* Use-it Now Strategies for Nonprofits – highly interactive
training sessions that incorporate different learning tools
every seven minutes;
* Women and the Money Learning Series – a series of workshops,
in conjunction with American Express Financial Advisors, that
teaches the psychology of investing and preparing for one’s
financial future.
(Further, in the summer of 2000, Michelle and Ms. Godfrey
developed the first Camp $tart Up in the Midwest, convincing
sponsors and business owners alike to volunteer their time, in
the face of limited funding, to a three week summer camp
teaching entrepreneurial skills to young girls).
At this same juncture, Michelle took on two very different
roles. First, Michelle became involved with Tastefully Simple
(www.tastefullysimple.com), helping to facilitate goal planning
and marketing strategy while consulting in areas of image
branding, public relations and product development. Today,
Tastefully Simple reigns as one of the top ten most successful
privately owned companies in the United States.
Secondly, in partnership with Jackie Urbanovic, a Random House
author, Massman & Associates developed the concept and publicity
campaign for Maggie, Inc., a comic strip which provided a
humorous look at the life of women-owned, home based businesses.
This comic strip went on to enjoy Bank of America sponsorship,
international distribution in over 50 publications, and
considerable press in Working Woman and Entrepreneur magazines.
Around 1997, in the midst of the aforementioned ventures,
Michelle and Works in Progress, Inc. began promoting the
Chocolate Fantasy Fundraiser Event, which in 2007 celebrated its
10th year of raising money for an amalgam of under funded school
and work programs in rural Minnesota communities.
In addition, Michelle launched two Midwestern Think Tanks to
inspire women in business through thought provoking discourse
and specific action, the most recent group of business
professionals beginning their charter in 2004. Each assemblage
typically involved five to six women and centered on goal
accountability and support with equality.
Also in 2004, Michelle was appointed Vice President of Tonic
Sol-fa, L.C.(www.tonicsolfa.com) and immediately guided the
entertainment group to international stages with appearances in
Newsweek, on the Today Show and alongside Jay Leno. Throughout
her tenure, Michelle instituted and fostered corporate
collaborations with Blue Bunny, Schwan’s, Wenger, Jostens, and
Bose. She amplified teamwork and bolstered business development
with an annual average sales increase of nearly 800%.
Whether providing a business professional with the necessary
tools to begin a life-long dream of owning a home-based
business, using accumulated expertise to help open a second
location of one of Minnesota’s best know spas and salons, or
even forming her high school alma mater’s first all school
reunion committee in order to facilitate five-thousand people’s
participation in ten events over three days, Massman &
Associates finds time to immerse themselves in the community
with great effect and to participate in varied business ventures
with unparalleled success.
Current projects/positions include CEO – Massman & Associates,
CEO - Women’s Showcase, Inc., Director – Works in Progress,
Inc., and Vice President – Tonic Sol-fa, L.C.
Speaking engagements include the Association of Women
Professionals, Business and Professional Women Annual
Conference, the National Association of Women Business Owners
and others. Topics range from “Succeeding on your Own Terms” to
“Raising Financially Fit Children.” |
